While using Windows Vista about two months ago I received a strange error. Afterwards, I could not login with my limited user account. Strangely, I was still able to login with different administrator accounts.

I restarted the computer a few times, but each time the OS refused to follow through with the login process. I added the limited user account to the local administrators group and was then able to successfully login. But once I removed the designated limited user account from the local administrators group, the same problem reoccurred.

Each time I logged in with an administrator account, I received an error message in the notification area.

Failed to connect to a windows service
Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service service. This problem prevents limited users from logging on to the system. As an administrative user, you can review the System Event Log for details about why the service didn’t respond.

Although I looked at the event log to try to extract helpful information, I did not find anything worthwhile. So what was the resolution? Turn off the computer and leave it off for an entire day. The following day I turned it on and was able to successfully login as the limited user.
