iPhone as an IT Tool
June 9, 2007 | 1 Comment
When Apple finally releases the iPhone in June, I’ll happily be one of the first customers to purchase one. However, I won’t be using the device for what many people consider it its primary purpose. I am more inclined to use it as a tool of the trade. My daily job duties currently consist of troubleshooting tech related issues; sometimes in remote locations far away from a computer.
I need my personal communicator to do much more than just simple e-mail and voice communication. The iPhone has been introduced as a multi-purpose device and it has features comparable to those of a modern day laptop. Its usage can vary from a high-capacity portable storage device to a music and video player, but primarily I will use it as a tool to dutifully fulfill my IT responsibilities. It comes with the ability to download and upload very large files over the internet or view web content, but also includes the functions of a digital camera.
According to Apple, the iPhone will be running a “full” version of Mac OS X. So hopefully a version of the Java Runtime Environment as well as a version of the popular Adobe Flash Player will come pre-installed. As for the status quo, I currently pay about $50 per month for an ugly looking device that I hardly use for anything other than just listening to voice mail and having brief conversations with acquaintances. My existing service provider charges outrageous fees for viewing so-called web content; not to mention the poor quality, load time, and reception that I receive in return.
I just can’t wait until Apple releases their product with more advanced features than were initially presented at MacWorld. Guess we will just have to wait until the week of June 29 rolls around so that we can personally play with the device. It will be very exciting to explore the various possibilities of iPhone usage. If you already have some ideas, please post your comments.
